THE COMPLEMENTARITY OF SEXES.SEXUALITY: ENERGY AND INFORMATION ORGANISMS
What is gender, why does gender exist? Can we build a theory of gender able to explain its 2 fundamental elements, the scientific physiology and the behaviour of both sexes?
Indeed. Since the Universe is made of 2 structural elements, spatial energy and temporal information, to survive in such Universe any species needs to feed on spatial energy and remember temporal information. Yet, we know that males process and control better energy and space; while females perceive and recall better temporal information. And together a couple widens the range of temporal energy and temporal information they can capture.
So we conclude that gender is an evolutionary strategy of specialization, which increases the overall chances of survival of a heterosexual species. The physiological forms, character and historic behaviour of men and women prove that duality parallel to the universal dual forms and behaviour of energy and information: men love energy, space; women love temporal information.
Physiologically men are made of lines, as energy is; while women are made of curves, as information is. Historically men performed the hunting of energetic preys, while the recollection of cyclical food (agriculture) is traditionally considered a female discovery.
Indeed, men behave as energy species. Their body forms are lineal shapes of muscular strength; they have lineal reproductive organs (penis); their origin is lineal sperm. Their cultural roles are specialized in spatial-energy processes, from physical activities to war and mathematical languages.
On the other hand, women are specialized in temporal processes. Their bodies have cyclical shapes and store more information to succeed in their genetic reproduction (one complete X-chromosome). Their brains specialize in verbal languages and show outstanding memory. If we observe the form of females, it is made of cycles. Their higher genetic information allows them the creation and reproduction of the human species (an informative process); their cyclical reproductive organs (vulva, clitoris) and their origin as a sphere, an ovule, are also time properties.
The character and life attitudes of both, men and women follow that ST specialization also in their relative wanting for energy or information: women prefer to dress with cyclical forms, play with formal toys like dolls and they like formal sports like gymnastics; men prefer moving, spatial toys, lineal dresses and violent sports. Thus men love energetic activities and women love informative perception and feelings. Even in the realm of the mind and its languages of perception we fin that men test better in spatial mathematics and women handle better temporal words.
Thus sexual dimorphism has its roots in the 2 essential elements of reality, space and time, energy and information that together improve the chances of survival of a couple.
An interesting outcome of the nature of sexes is the similar value both sexes must have. Since in the Universe, energy and information, space and time, are parameters that should co-exist in harmony; as both are needed to exist. Yet time slightly dominates and guides energy. So women should dominate men. Why the opposite happens? There was indeed an age of Goddesses. But the excessive development of energetic weapons and war put men on top ever since hard metal was discovered, as it added an extraordinary energetic force to males that women could no longer balance with their superior perception. In that sense, women develop the new temporal language of man, words, and men their new spatial force, technological weapons.
Sexuality manifests again the duality of the Universe: Females are informative species, Men are energetic ones.
Women sometimes behave like men and men like women. Specially in the present male dominated society, many women are accustomed to behave like men, and play by their rules to succeed in a male-designed society. And they are doing very well, increasingly dominating sectors of our societies that were previously the realm of men. This has created a certain sense that there is only a "way to behave", the male way, which belongs both to women and men - an aggressive, outwards, forceful, energetic way. Not so we contend. That is merely a historic development, plainly wrong, that too often dismisses classic female attitudes, (nurturing, dialogue, compromise) and penalizes them.
In true form, when women and men behave naturally as they are, they behave different. And they love different things. Yet women should not be ashamed of some of those classic female attitudes, different from men, because they are also essential to the Universe.For example, women love time, love memories - information stored in the cycles of time. They always remember better than men do. Women say often to their husbands, Didn't you remember that day? They get angry when the husband says, no. She thinks he doesn't love her. But the husband is not being inconsiderate. He just cannot remember. It is not in his nature to remember all things from the time past.
He is a man. And men love energy, love space... They love the present, the action, the immediate reality. They have little room for memories, because they are focused on what it is only, when it is, when it happens. So it is good they have a woman by their side to remind them of the important things, of the cycles that repeat themselves, and warn them on the destructive consequences of some of their acts.
It is an example of the kind of complementarity that helps the couple to get through life better.
Men maybe display that extra energy and movement, but also a certain simplicity of purpose, like the simplicity of a line. Women complement that with a broader view, a more formal approach to problems that can guide the line of energy towards a better purpose. So even if women and men are different, their difference is complementary.
How could we summarize our list of differences? In a simple but meaningful sentence:
Women are mainly about time and form, information: men are mainly about energy and space.
Sexual specialization in fact goes beyond physiology into the realm of the mind, and its languages of perception. It is for that reason that men test better in spatial mathematics, and women test better in temporal words. When a woman dies she has talked on average 25% more than a man.
Gender specialization also manifests itself in gender behavior: men love energetic activities, men destroy, men love war, movement, open spaces, men are violent; women love information, and creative activities, women nurture, do not like violence, women love cycles, memories, closed spaces like homes. Women love to perceive and feel.
Yet because as we said both sexes are complementary, the beauty of sexual attraction starts precisely on those differences. Women like men who show energy, and force. Men love women who have curves, and a "sixth sense", a higher sensitivity, and formal understanding of what is proper and what is not.
In this manner women who are about time and form, often love and desire energy. While men who are about energy and space, are fascinated by the easiness and elegance of women's subtle command of forms, from dancing to making love, from setting a protocol table to decorating a beautiful home. They create pleasant, formal environments in which that excess of male energy melts away.
The wider spectra of sex attitudes.
Those differences between sexes, the line Vs the cycle, energy Vs form, male Vs female, are self-evident truths for those who like to observe the nature and behavior of people. They might not be easily quantifiable, but they are real. Truths do not need to be expressed in numbers and quantities, especially qualitative truths, such as those regarding character and form, in order "to exist". Even if today we have become afraid of making such kin observations, that might not be politically correct, if you leave aside your established ideas, and look afresh with natural eyes to men and women, you will see how clear those differences are.
I know it is logic, after so many centuries of female oppression, to deny those natural differences, in order to avoid discrimination. If the world is ruled by male attitudes and males are so arrogant as to dismiss the other side of the Universal equation, why not to become like men, open up the cycle into a line? This is what many women are doing. And it is not a bad strategy of survival, given the limits and lack of respect our society has towards female attitudes.
Yet one theme is power and the other is truth. We are here concerned with truth. And for that reason before going further, we want to talk a little about the nature of truth.
As in the case of gender there are many misleading dogmas about truth. To start with in the Universe, truths are neither black or white, but they are more complex, a series of grey tones. Indeed, I want you to understand one thing about the Universe: Probability. Arrogant men like to make total statements, dogmas, but that is not how reality works. Species do not have a fixed size, but vary around a probable media. So does gender. There is not a strict division between female forms and male forms, but a probable distribution. The Universe is a probabilistic place, and that works specially when defining gender.
In such cases, Scientists use a bell curve, to express the variety of behavior, or morphology in a given species. The surface of the bell curve represents the total population, distributed along a certain character we study (in the x co-ordinates). For different values of that X-character there will be different quantities of population represented by the height of the bell along the Y co-ordinates..
Let us do then two intuitive curves for our 2 characters, the male and the female, according to their likeness for energy (maximum in men) and form (maximum in women).
We might call those two bell curves of character "formal women" and "energetic men". Since both concepts, form and energy, are rather opposite, we can plot both, male's "energetic" population, and women's "informative population" along a single x Co-ordinates. So in the same graphic we will have both women and men:
Biological origins, psychological behaviour and cultural forms explain gender as a ternary differentiation of humans into informative females, energetic males and a ‘3rd sex‘ of gay groups that mix both tendencies, in a similar split to that of human races.
On the right we find people who love form ("pure women"). On the left we find people who love energy (pure male character.) Then, there is a central region which is common to both genders, in which the two bell curves overlap each other. The graph is slightly tilted towards energy character, as we live in a male society, that promotes energy traits. So more women learn to love energy, than men learn to love form. This means, there are many women who show an enormous energy; and there are some men who have a formal, impeccable behavior, as women today stress their male character to reach power.
Can we be "scientific" about that graph?
Indeed, we could take a group of men and women, and make a statistical test of personality, asking them about their likeness of energy Vs form (questions like, "what do you like more", Foot-ball, an energetic game Vs tennis, a formal game; or action movies, an energy genre, Vs emotional movies, a perceptive, informative genre; or art, a formal knowledge Vs Physics, an energy science.) The answers to those tests would then allow us to distribute men and women along the co-ordinates of maximum energy Vs maximum information.
I have done that test with a reduced group of friends and students (around 100 people). Even though the test was not strictly scientific, to my surprise the group acquired a dual bell curve form: most women preferred formal activities, most men preferred energetic activities.
Still, each bell curve slides beneath the other. So in real life there are women with a lot of corporal energy, and very weak men; and there are men with a lot of sensorial complexity (the true nature of information), and very simple women.
What this means is that some women are men-like and some men are women-like (to the extreme of becoming gay), and that is natural within those bell distributions. So we shall define women and men as probable characters.
Latter we will get into an analysis of why gender character varies so much: The wise Universe has also a purpose for those variations.
Still in the middle of those bell curves, most women and most men "are". Yet only understanding the grey characters, between both extremes, we avoid dismissing attitudes and individuals that might fall in one or other extreme of their respective bell curves.
Topics exist. They respond to a bell curve distribution in a probable Universe. The topic says that Spaniards have dark hair, Germans are blonde, and blacks curls. Of course there are blonde Spaniards, dark hair Germans, and blacks with thin hair. Those are the bell curve extremes. Yet, what matters to us in order to create probable definitions, is to consider the topic, the maximum number of people on the male and female bell curves. Because in those central zones we will find the nature of women and men.
Problem is that in our male dominated society a single, one-line truth is considered better. So in the realm of truth, it has become customary to convert probable truths into single dogmas. Then those dogmas exclude less probable truths. Such attitudes are against the ultimate nature of truth in the Universe which is probabilistic. It goes also against the right to exist of all minorities in any bell curve.
So, we do not want to force a lineal peak-truth (the truth-character of males), but rather find the real probabilistic bell-truths. In that sense truths are more like women... And that is right in the probabilistic Universe. So please if you are gay, or you love the attitudes of the other sex, do not feel bad about it, neither ignore what you can learn in this book - rather upgrade the false concept of black and white truth, our arrogant males have developed for centuries to cater their sense of self -importance.
We live in a probable, relative world. Yet we do not have to renounce to knowledge because of that, but rather accept both the probable, and the odd as a multiple learning experience. Since exceptions confirm the median truth.
And the probable, median truth about gender is this:
Women have in their bodies more form, more genetic, temporal information than men do. They even have more chromosomes. While men have in their bodies more energy than women do. They come in bigger spatial packages...
Why?
The Yin-Yang dual Universe in old China.
That Why is a big question because it implies to know what is temporal information, the genetic quality of women, and what is spatial energy, the properties of males.
Again in our western dogmatic society, those concepts have very narrow, abstract definitions that make difficult to understand the broader picture. Let us then give a geographical jump into a culture, which unlike ours, has always been aware of that Universal duality and his application to gender - the Chinese culture.
Yang-energy males, and Yin-form-ation women.
Indeed, our strange ideas about men and women, might seem artificial to you; you might never have heard them before. But actually they are very old, and they are natural. They were first told by the oldest surviving culture of humankind, the Chinese culture.
"Men are energy, women are information"... the theme of this book is not a new sentence. It is a new way to write a very old philosophical concept, using modern, scientific terminology.
In old China, people said that Women were Yin-beings and men were Yang-beings.
As time went by, most people forgot what the Chinese meant by yin and yang, the female-male elements of the Universe, and so the old wisdom of the Chinese was lost. Let us remember that old wisdom... which made of China an ever lasting civilization based in the harmony of sexual beings, of the yin-female and the yang-male.
Temporal information is the closest word in modern science, that defines the properties of Yin beings.
Spatial energy is the closest word in modern science, that defines the property of yang beings.
________ is the closest form to pure energy.
O is the closest form to pure information.
The Chinese represented Yin with a cycle, like the cycle of time-clocks, or with a parted line, --, that carried more information than the opposite being, the Yang, ___, a straight line of energy, the male species.
Yin was related to temporal information, to the cycles of beings that once and again happen. The kind of temporal cycles that women always remember. They know the dates, they feel the stations of the year, they recall their anniversaries.
Yin is cyclical like women are, with curves and memories that come back. Yin is still like the sphere, the home where women spend so much time. Yin is repetitive, conservative, anchored in the past, as classic women were.
Facing Yin, however Yang existed, the straight line, [___], the man.
Energy, Yang was expansive, with lineal forms. Energy remembers little. It always moves aHead, restless, looking for the myths of the future, as men do. Energy was destructive, forceful, external, war-like.
The cycle yin, and the line yang, defined in the old Taoism women and men.
Men lived towards the outside, as energy who always expands.
Some yang beings: the bomb, the big-bang, the energy that moves the engine. And men... running, moving, riding their horses into war, thrusting their sperm into the ovum; looting, destroying, feeling energy in a free Yang-flow of existence.
Women, though lived inwards, moving into circles. Men had to return home to find them. Women loved home, and the small spaces. They took care very well of those small spaces. Because women could wait and see the pass of time, they were patient, lovers of God, philosophers of the eternal.
Some Yin beings:
The tree, the imploding Universe, the wheel that energy moves. And women. returning home, taking care of small places, waiting the sperm to come, and choosing the one; accumulating, nurturing, feeling the beauty and harmony of certain forms, as they fill your soul with meaning, in a free Yin-flow of perception.
Women - said the Chinese - last more. They live more. Men were novas, sudden explosions of force and pleasure. Their orgasms were also brief explosions. Women had long lasting pleasures.
Women loved time and harmony. Men loved energy, and its extreme peaks.
The morphology of men and women...
The morphology of our bodies, is the experimental prove, that gives reason to the Chinese.
Look at the body of a man, with his lineal forms. His body is big, and physical, full of energy and force.
Look at the body of a woman, her curves, her small but complex forms. Inside she also stores more in-form-ation, than the body of a man. She has one more chromosome. She is able to reproduce creating life with all those genetic memories.
In fact science has a way of defining in any living species what is a male and a female. You look at the original form, and you find two cells:
The ovum, is a big cyclical, rounded form. It is the woman. The sperm is a small Head with a line-tail, that waves and moves the sperm. It is a male. That dual morphology continues as both species grow. The male keeps his linearity. The woman keeps her cyclicality.
The male moves as energy does towards the body of women. Women stay quiet, as the ovule, waiting for the man to approach.
Certain forms have certain behavioral traits. The forms of energy have the traits of energy. The forms of information have the traits of information. From birth to extinction.
The old Religions, the sexual universe
So our title relates our theory of gender to previous analysis of gender and dualism in classic cultures, and modern sciences of reality such as physics and biology. Surprisingly enough we have found in our inquire that Eastern Religions, specifically Taoism with his theory of Yin and Yang, female and male beings, is extremely close to our modern scientific theory. This is logic, since after all we observe the same Universe, 4000 years ago, or yesterday.
Women are Yin beings, information bodies, circular bodies.
Men are yang bodies, energy bodies, lineal bodies.
Taoism, the closest concept to a Universal theory of sexes.
The best scientists and philosophers tend to believe that the big questions are very simple. So they look for simple formulas, and have a 'philosophical measure of truth', called "Ockham's razor":
The most simple an answer is, and the more questions it explains, the more probable, and powerful its truthness becomes.
That is why the two Universal principles of information and energy, the cycle of time and the line of space, repeated ad infinitum in the Universe, are so powerful. They are very simple to grasp when you look with the eyes of a child to what things have in common, and what things hide behind their obvious appearance.... And they are useful to describe almost everything that exists: You will find lines of energy and cycles of information everywhere.
It is said that children are more intuitive that old people. It is said that they will enter in the realm of God, in the realm of knowledge, and capture the Logic of the Universe before old men do.
It seems that the mind of children understands the great principles easier than old people do. In that sense the Chinese were children of thought, at the beginning of human knowledge, and so they could synthesize reality without bothering very much for the detail.. They did not know so many details as we do, so they could look to the essence of things, to what is repeated ad infinitum. We add a lot of detail to the great principles of the Universe. And the forest, the details, prevent us from seeing how simple are the two great 'formal principles' that make up the Universe.
Geometry shows the essence of form.
The first mathematicians and philosophers of science, thought in simple geometrical terms, not in complex equations and abstract numbers. So it was much more easier for them to visualize our 2 Universal principles:
Energy can be drawn as a continuous line. So did the Chinese.
In-formation, or time, can be drawn as a cycle, or a broken line that has more form than a continuous line. So did the Chinese.
Children also paint cycles and lines, when they learn to draw their first pictures.
Those are their first conceptualizations of reality. Intuitively a child's brain shows the very nature of Reality - the cycle of Time and the line of energy.
Why children do that? Because their conceptual minds already participate of that dual essence of reality. So their first abstr actions simplify reality into that essence.
Latter they fill the cycle, the Head, the brain, with other drawings, other cycles.
And they do the same with the body. They put more lines in the big line.
And 'voila', you have the first example of the organic duality of the Universe:
You have a human.
The two principles, the cycle of information, and the line of energy, have become a Head that perceives, and a body that processes energy; it has become humanity itself, 'made to the image and resemblance of God, the dual principles of the Universe'.
Now think about the forms on those drawings. Are they a woman or a man? They seem a man to you, because they are made of straight lines. But if we draw a few more cycles, and curves... Or take away the line from the cycle, we get a woman
Experience - say the scientists - is the prove of any theory. The experimental forms of females and males, are the strongest prove that men are dominant in energy, and women are dominant in information, that men are space, and women are time...
